Chapter 3 Variety of Printings Using Color Management The printer driver provides a setting for performing color management to printing data and a color adjustment that produces better looking prints by using only the printer driver. Color adjustment is performed without adjusting the color of the original data.
Color management About color management system (CMS) Since devices such as a digital camera, scanner, monitor, or printer produce color differently, the printing result looks different from the image you see on the display. To adjust the color between devices, use the color management system. Both Windows and Mac OS X have a color management system as their standard feature. Note: When you print an image taken by a digital camera or scanner, usually the printing result looks different from what you see on the display. This variance occurs because each device such as a digital camera, scanner, monitor, or printer, produces colors differently. In order to reduce the differences in color between each device, please perform color management between each device. Application Printer driver Printer Color management by Host ICM/ColorSync Specify the Specify the printer input profile.
You need to perform color matching with the printer driver before printing. An application needs to support ICM or ColorSync color management. Since it prints using the color management function of operating systems, a difference may appear in a printing color between Windows and Mac OS X. Color management by Driver ICM (Windows only) The following procedures are for Adobe Photoshop CS2 running on Windows XP. When using this function with an application which does not support a color management function, you need to perform the color matching process from step 4.
Select Color Management, and select Document for the Print. Select No Color Management for the Color Handling. Then click Done. Open the printer driver window.

Borderless Printing You can print your data without margins on paper. There are two types of borderless printing. Note: If you are using roll paper, all four sides can be borderless, and if you are using a sheet of paper, only left and right sides can be borderless. ❏ Retain Size Using an application, enlarge your image data to exceed the paper width and height, to avoid unprinted areas appearing along the all four edges. The printer driver does not enlarge the image data. Enlarging 3 mm in both the left and right directions (total of 6 mm) is recommended by using the application that created the data. 728 mm (B1).

Poster Printing The poster printing function allows you to print poster-size images by enlarging one page to cover several sheets of paper. This function is supported by Windows only. You can make a poster or a calendar by joining the several printed sheets of paper together. ❏ Poster printing with margins You can print a poster-size image by automatically enlarging one page to cover several sheets of paper.
You need to cut the margins and then join the several sheets of paper together to make a poster. Click the Page Layout tab, select the Multi-Page check box, select Poster, and then click Settings. In the Poster Settings dialog box, select the number of printed pages you want the poster to cover. Note: You can make a larger poster if you select a greater number for division. When you want to print a borderless poster, select the Borderless Poster Print check box, and select the panels that you do not want to print, and then click OK. Then go to step 6.
If you want margins around the poster, make sure the Borderless Poster Print check box is cleared, and make the other settings as necessary. Joining the sheets together along the guide The steps to join the sheets together are different whether the printed sheets are borderless or not. For borderless poster printing This section explains how to join the four printed pages together. Join the printed pages together appropriately, and stick them on the back of sheets using the cellophane tape. For poster printing with margins When you select Overlapping Alignment Marks, the following marks are printed on the paper.
See the procedures below to join the four printed pages together using the alignment marks. The four sheets are joined together by the following order. Variety of Printings. Cut the upper left sheet along the alignment mark (vertical blue line).
The guide is black for the black-and-white printing. Lay the upper left sheet on top of the upper right sheet.
The X marks should be matched as in the illustration below, and join the upper left sheet to the upper right sheet with cellophane tape temporarily. Join the upper left and right sheets together with cellophane tape on the back of the sheets. Try step 1 to 4 for the lower sheets. Cut the bottom of upper sheets along the alignment mark (horizontal blue line). The guide is black for the black-and-white printing.
